Spring Cleaning

Being the neat freak that I am, I absolutely LOVE spring cleaning. There’s nothing like getting those windows open for the first time and getting some fresh warm air. And, you guys know me…I sometimes seem to go completely overboard with my cleaning. My to-do lists often seem never ending. As much as that does suck, those lists are filled with things that actually needed to get done. So, if you’re really looking to deep clean your home after a long winter, follow the list below! For those slightly less OCD, feel free to pick and choose what your home really needs.

Kitchen

  1. Wash and put away all dishes
  2. Rinse any lesser-used dishes that may have accumulated some dust
  3. Clean dishwasher
  4. Clean inside and outside of cabinets
  5. Organize cabinets
  6. Clean doorknobs and light fixtures
  7. Throw out expired food (fridge, freezer, and pantry)
  8. Clean & disinfect trash can
  9. Clean and disinfect sink
  10. Dust tops of cabinets
  11. Clean fridge (shelves, water filter, and coils)
  12. Wipe down appliances
  13. Organize food (fridge, freezer, and pantry)
  14. Clean oven/stovetop
  15. Organize tupperwares
  16. Sharpen knives
  17. Sanitize cutting boards
  18. Clean and disinfect coffee maker
  19. Clean under the sink
  20. Wipe counters and backsplash
  21. Clean microwave
  22. Wash windows & dust blinds
  23. Clean dish rack
  24. Sweep/Vacuum
  25. Mop

Living Room

  1. Dust any photos/decor
  2. Dust electronics and tabletops
  3. Organize media (CDs/DVDs, and video games)
  4. Wash throw blankets/pillows
  5. Steam clean couches (or wipe down leather ones)
  6. Sweep/Vacuum
  7. Mop
  8. Wash windows & dust blinds
  9. Clean doorknobs and light fixtures

Bathroom

  1. Wipe down inside and outside of cabinets
  2. Organize drawers and cabinets
  3. Clean air vents and exhaust fan (IMPORTANT to avoid fires)
  4. Wash makeup brushes
  5. Wash towels
  6. Refill soaps/shampoos/toothpastes/toilet paper
  7. Scrub shower/tub and fixtures
  8. Scrub toilet
  9. Clean sink and fixtures
  10. Empty trash
  11. Clean/wash shower curtain
  12. Wash windows & dust blinds
  13. Sweep/Vacuum
  14. Mop
  15. Clean mirrors
  16. Replace toothbrushes
  17. Clean doorknobs and light fixtures

Bedroom

  1. Dust tops of dressers/vanities/nightstands
  2. Sweep/Vacuum
  3. Mop
  4. Run laundry (fold and put away)
  5. Select clothes to donate to GoodWill
  6. Wash pillows and bedding
  7. Flip, rotate, and clean mattress
  8. Clean doorknobs and light fixtures
  9. Wash windows & dust blinds
  10. Clean mirrors
  11. Organize closet
  12. Switch seasonal clothing

Dining Room

  1. Clean and polish table/chairs
  2. Sweep/Vacuum
  3. Mop
  4. Wash windows & dust blinds
  5. Clean any stored dishware
  6. Wash table linens
  7. Clean doorknobs and light fixtures

Storage

(laundry room, closets, etc.)

  1. Clean dryer vent and washing machine
  2. Empty drain pump
  3. Clean and organize shelving contents
  4. Dust under washer and dryer
  5. Clean doorknobs and light fixtures
  6. Sweep/Vacuum
  7. Mop
  8. Clean windows & dust blinds

Kids

  1. Clean and disinfect toys
  2. Wash and organize clothing
  3. Clean bath toys
  4. Donate old clothes and unused toys

Office

  1. Shred unneeded documents/files
  2. Review insurance policies
  3. Check credit report
  4. Dust electronics
  5. Run full computer security scan
  6. Clean and organize desk drawers
  7. Organize books

Outside

  1. Sweep and power wash deck
  2. Power wash siding and garage door
  3. Clean out gutters
  4. Touch up paint
  5. Clean grill
  6. Clean light fixtures
  7. Dust away cobwebs
  8. Wash outside of all windows
  9. Clean patio furniture
  10. Trim trees and bushes
  11. Clean outdoor trashcans
  12. Weed garden/add mulch
  13. Wash cars
  14. Clean and vacuum car interiors

Don’t forget! Before you get overwhelmed, remember that you certainly don’t have to do all of this! Many items from the list won’t even be applicable to your home, while others you might just decide to skip. It all depends on just how clean you want your home, and how much time and work you’re willing to put into it. Happy cleaning!
